Gorgeous Braided Hairstyles

Braided hairstyles are all the rage right now. They are sleek, sophisticated, and practical all at the same time. And let’s not forget just how easy so many of them are. They look difficult but all it takes is a little practise and you’ll have them up and done in no time.

You likely currently do some of the common braided hairstyles already. After all, last year was all about the simple side braid and the fishtail braid was hugely popular. Now it’s time to try out these gorgeous braided hairstyles.

The Backwards Braided

Who said that a braid has to start from the top of your head? This year, it’s all about the backwards braid. It starts from the nap of your neck and works its way up your head and into the rest of your hair. All you need to do is tip your hair forward and braid as you would normally but from the back. You can French braid it to collect any loose strands of hair.

Braid it until you reach the section that gathers into a ponytail and then you have a choice. You can either keep going, collecting your hair into a ponytail and then braiding as normal, or you can just gather your hair into a ponytail. The problem with the latter is that it will cover your backwards braid.

Why not wrap the ponytail into a bun instead? This helps to show off your braid, while keeping your hair out of the way. It looks smart and sophisticated at the same time, and is perfect for all occasions.

The Side Braid

This side French braid is a slight adaptation from the popular side braid of 2015 and 2016. Rather than just pulling your hair to the side and starting the braid, you want to start from the very top – just on one side of the hair. Think about the way Elsa in Frozen does her hair after she embraces her powers.

Leave a strand of hair at the front out of the braid and French braid the way you usually would, gathering strands from the other side of the hair to collect it all on one side gradually. Work your braid all the way to the tip as tightly as you want. Once you’ve secured the braid, you can pull the sections of the braid slightly to make them look thicker.

Finish off my curling that front strand that you left out. This just completes the look. This is one of the hottest trends of 2017, so get practising now in time for the summer.

The 1920s Style Wrap Braid

During the 1920s to 1940s, the hair was pulled up off the neck as much as possible. Of course, women still had long hair, so they needed to work their hair into a fashionable style. That meant finding a way to wrap their hair to the nape of the neck.

The wrap braid style became popular and it has come back into fashion now. It involves using pigtails to create a simplistic braid on one side of the head and then moving the braid back and forth, pinning it at the sides, until all the hair is gathered up.
